Frequently asked questions.
When do applications close?
Applications for the January 2027 cycle close on 31 December 2026, or sooner if the place is filled. Strong applications that arrive later are considered for the May 2027 cycle, and we tell you exactly where you stand within five working days.
Do I need the marketing capital before I apply?
No, but you need a clear way to have it in place before kick-off. It must be at least half the build cost and sit in a separate company bank account before we start. Tell us honestly where it stands today, because we check it before signing.
Do I need DPIIT recognition or a company to apply?
You need a private limited company before the final agreements are signed, but not to apply. If incorporation is under way, give the expected date. DPIIT recognition is not required at any stage. We encourage it, because it opens government startup schemes and the startup tax holiday. Your CA can check eligibility.
Will you tell me why if I am declined?
Yes, briefly and honestly, within five working days. The most common reasons are a version one too big for four months, thin evidence of demand or a marketing budget that is not yet secured. Founders who close the gap can apply again for a later cycle.
Is my idea safe when I apply?
Describe the problem and the market, not your unique mechanics. Detailed sessions happen only after a mutual NDA at the evaluation call, and the term sheet binds both sides to confidentiality for five years once it is signed. Until then, keep the secret parts to yourself.
Does applying commit me to anything?
No. Applying creates no obligation for either side. The confirmations simply show that you understand the main commitments. Nothing binds you until you sign the term sheet, and the main obligations start only with the final agreements, after advice from your lawyer and CA.
